What I bring to your birth that doesn’t fit in my bag…
When people think about what a doula brings to a birth, they often picture the practical things: a birth ball, massage tools, snacks, a rebozo, or a bag full of comfort measures.
And yes, I bring those things too.
But the most valuable things I bring into your birth space can’t be packed in a bag.
They come from years of studying the human body, supporting people through pregnancy and postpartum, and understanding the incredible physical process of birth.
As a Registered Massage Therapist, Kinesiology graduate, and Birth Doula, I support families through birth with a unique lens: one that understands both the emotional experience of birth and the mechanics of the body doing the work.
A Deep Understanding of the Body
Before becoming a doula, I spent over 15 years studying and supporting the human body as a Registered Massage Therapist.
My background has given me a deep appreciation for anatomy, movement, tension, and the ways our bodies adapt throughout pregnancy and birth.
Pregnancy changes everything; how you move, how you carry weight, where you hold tension, and how your body prepares for the work ahead.
Birth is no different.
Labour is an incredible physiological process, and I love helping families understand what is happening in their bodies so they can approach birth feeling more informed and connected.
A Body-Based Approach to Labour
Birth isn’t just about waiting for contractions.
Your body and your baby are working together throughout labour, and the way you move, rest, position yourself, and create space can play an important role in your experience.
I bring knowledge of movement, positioning, and comfort techniques to help you work with your body throughout labour.
This might look like exploring different labour positions, encouraging movement, using touch and massage techniques, or helping you find the tools that feel supportive for you.
Every body is different, and every birth unfolds in its own way. My role is to help you listen to your body and find what works for you.
Hands-On Support With Purpose
Massage, counter pressure, touch, and positioning are more than just comfort measures.
They are tools.
Tools to help you feel grounded during intense moments.
Tools to help release tension.
Tools to help you and your partner feel confident supporting your body through labour.
My experience as an RMT allows me to bring a different understanding of hands-on support into the birth space. I don’t just know techniques, I understand the body receiving them.
The Ability to Notice What Others Might Miss
Years of working with bodies have taught me how to listen with my hands and pay attention to the subtle changes happening throughout pregnancy and birth.
A shift in tension.
A change in movement.
A position that doesn’t feel quite right.
These small observations can offer valuable information about what your body may need in that moment.
I see birth through the lens of both a doula and someone who understands the mechanics of the body.
Support That Starts Before Labour
Birth preparation isn’t just about writing a birth plan.
It’s about building confidence.
During our time together, we don’t just talk about your preferences — we prepare your body and your support team for the experience ahead.
We practice comfort techniques, explore movement, discuss different stages of labour, and make sure you and your partner have tools you can use when the big day arrives.
The goal isn’t to control birth. Birth will always have its own rhythm. The goal is to help you feel prepared, informed, and supported no matter how your journey unfolds.
My Unwavering Support For You
Birth is emotional.
Birth is transformational.
But birth is also physical.
There are decisions to make, unknowns to navigate, and moments that ask a lot of you.
I believe in your ability to birth your baby. I believe in your instincts. I believe that you deserve support that honours both the physical and emotional experience of becoming a parent.
You Don’t Hire a Doula to Do Birth For You
You hire a doula because you deserve someone who understands the journey.
Someone who can help you feel informed when decisions arise.
Someone who can support your body when labour gets intense.
Someone who can remind you of your strength when you need it most.
Your body is doing incredible work. My role is to support you through it.
